We’re Combatting the Opioid Crisis in Reno and We Need Your Help!

The New Generation Dare Outreach Program

The New Generation Dare Outreach Program is designed to empower young scholars (students) to take full advantage of their educational opportunities. We inspire scholars to challenge themselves in a positive and encouraging manner to overcome self-doubt and build confidence in their learning capabilities. We promote awareness and prevention through an array of collaboration efforts and community events.

We are now campaigning for sponsorships with billboard placements throughout the Washoe County, Reno/Spark area to spread awareness and support resources. If your organization would like to be a part of our community safety-net collaboration please feel free to contact us at 775-622-3612.

Organizational Accomplishments of “The New Generation Dare” Outreach Program

  • Distributed up to 100 backpacks to the African American community
  • Assisted 1000 homeless individuals with hygiene packages and lunches
  • From the date of inception, Black Wall Street of Reno has assisted 4000 minority men, women, and children in the Washoe County area.
  • In partnership with Wake-Up Nevada, Black Wall Street has established 25 Narcan box location stations in the Washoe County, Reno/Sparks Area.

Billboard & Commercial Sponsorships

Billboards will have Black Wall Street and The Human Services Agency working together to bridge the gap between the Black and Brown communities.

The billboards will address the different Nationalities affected by opiates.

We have noticed none of the pictures look like us. So, we don’t believe it affects our community. Our slogan is “Recovery looks like us”

For our commercial, we will have people of color. Every commercial I’ve seen does not address the black or brown communities.

We Need Your Help Filling the Overdose Aid Kit

This new O.A.K. Overdose Aid Kit station has been installed over near Diamond’s Casino in Reno. The OAK Program is a collaboration between Serve You Rx and Start Healing Now to combat the opioid epidemic and provide support to those impacted by substance use disorder, including individuals, communities, and workplaces.

However, we can’t do this on our own. We need assistance from other organizations to help keep this station full. Narcan helps prevent deaths from opiate overdose. If you or your organization can help us keep this O.A.K. Overdose Aid Kit station filled, please contact Black Wall Street Reno.

About Start Healing Now

Start Healing Now, founded in 2013, supports individuals and their families on the path to long-term recovery from substance use disorder. This nonprofit organization provides a solid base of continuous care. As a result, they’re able to offer resources and financial assistance for safe and structured sober living homes, education, and transitional aftercare programs. They also offer free access to the lifesaving drug Narcan.

Your donations fuel the O.A.K. Program, the road to recovery, and a new life for those who struggle with the disease of addiction. Without your help, Start Healing Now could not provide a single person with the services they desperately need.

Help Us Keep These Overdose Aid Kit Stations Stocked

We strive to provide resources and services to Black and under-served communities in the Reno/Sparks area to increase their self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and self-worth. We take pride in making history and providing the new generations with the tools and courage they require through unending support & care initiatives.

This also includes ensuring the survival of those who may be suffering from drug dependence. That’s why it’s important to us that we help support O.A.K. overdose aid kit stations like these. Furthermore, we hope that in time, we can ensure that Narcan is available to whoever may need it. To whoever wants to carry it. Together, we can prevent overdoses and unnecessary deaths in our community.

Interested in helping keep these overdose aid kits stocked? Please reach out to Black Wall Street. Let us know that you’re dedicated to keeping your community safe as well.

We have lost six people in the month of July due to overdosing. Kaci Mitchell was no exception leaving behind four beautiful children. Kaci’s family reached out to BWS for school supplies, food, clothes, and resources. Liz Mcfarland from Project 150 helped with school clothes, and Kimberly C Weingartner donated house items and toys for the children. The real success stories will come when BWS has in place prevention classes, and more NARCAN training for the children, and community.

On a lighter note, BWS was able to provide 70 inner-city children with an experience of developing communication and coping skills, and suicide prevention techniques, all while having fun at Sky Tavern. We’re networking and building partnerships for this winter and the years to come.
